Moses was a great man of God. God used him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. As the people gathered east of the Jordon River, Moses spoke his last words. God was about to take Moses home to be with Him. Most of the book of Deuteronomy are Moses’ final words. Sixteen times Moses commands the people to “observe to do,” starting with Deu 5:32 “Ye shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.” They were commanded to observe and do…
· All the commandments that Moses commanded them
· All the statutes and judgments
· All that the priests and Levites teach and command
· All the words of the law
God promised blessing upon all who “observe to do” and curses upon those who don’t “observe to do.”
Jesus also had some final words for us just before He ascended to heaven: Mat 28:19-20 “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, evenunto the end of the world. Amen.”
We are to observe all things that Jesus has commanded us. We observe Jesus’ commands in the gospels and Revelation chapters two and three. Jesus gives lessons and commands throughout the gospels; for example, the sermon on the mount (Matthew 5-7), but John fills five chapters with Jesus’ last words to his disciples before His death and resurrection (John 13-17).
Let’s not just observe but observe and do!
