John 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Isaiah spoke of the light that Jesus would bring to the region of Galilee: Isaiah 9:2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
Jesus gives to all men a certain amount of rational knowledge and understanding, but when we are born-again of the Spirit of God our eyes are open to spiritual truth. We can grow in grace and in the knowledge of God. We have hope and faith. God gives us wisdom and spiritual discernment: 1 Corinthians 2:13-14 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Acts 26:18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
This is a good prayer for the start of your Bible reading and study: Psalm 119:18 Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.
