2 Peter 1:1-4 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Christ gives you and me the same faith that the Apostle Peter had. It is precious. It is of great importance and value because it comes from God. We cannot work up faith on our own. As we hear the gospel and read the Bible, God gives us the faith to be saved. Then our faith continues to grow as we walk with Christ. Peter uses the word precious several times.
The precious faith that we receive from God can withstand trials – 1Pe 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
Jesus is precious, and He is precious to us. He is the object of our faith. Our trust and reliance is upon Him.
· 1Pe 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
· 1Pe 2:4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
· 1Pe 2:6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
· 1Pe 2:7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
God’s Word is precious to us who believe. 2Pe 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Today, thank God for the precious faith He has given you because of the preciousness of Jesus Christ!
