Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God. Isaiah 50:10
We all face fears from without and within. This verse is an encouragement to the Christian who fears God and obeys Jesus Christ. This is a call to faith to those who already believe. There are times in the life of a Christian that all seems dark, but we stay upon God. I like the phrase ‘stay upon his God.’ This makes it personal. God is my God, and my faith and confidence is in Him.
This suggests that we are in need to continuously exercise faith. We need to constantly renew our confidence in God in every stage of the Christian life.
God has a purpose even in the darkness. We may never understand the purpose of the darkness, but we know that darknesses are temporary. We may experience many times of darkness, but God always brings us through. Psalm 30:5b … in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
“God is the believer's God still; and faith is a staying or leaning upon him, as such; a dependence upon his power to protect, on his wisdom to guide, and on his grace, goodness, and all sufficiency, to supply.” – John Gill
