John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The Apostle John makes it clear to us in other verses that the Word is Jesus Christ, the Second Person of the Trinity. Many verses in the Scriptures refer to Jesus as The Word, but why is Jesus called the Word? What is the significance of this metaphor?
Let’s look at some other verses that apply here:
· John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
· Hebrews 1:1-2 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
· Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
· 1 John 1:1-2 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
· Revelation 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. Note: Jesus is the entire alphabet; we must listen to Him.
· Revelation 19:13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
1. Words make our thoughts understandable to others. As the Word, Christ has made visible the invisible God.
2. By means of words I communicate my thoughts to others. Christ, as the Word, communicates to us the life and love of God.
3. Our words reveal our intellect and character. Christ reveals the attributes and perfections of God! We can study the life of Christ in the Gospels. He manifests all the attributes of God perfectly. Then we read the epistles to learn how to live the Christ-like life.
Hopefully, we will spend a lot of time in the Book in 2024; however, our relationship is not with the Book, but with the Author of the Book, Jesus Christ. Let’s listen to Him!
