Isaiah 12:2-3 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.
These verses were part of a song that the Jews would sing. Verse three was chanted by the priests on the last day of the Feast of Tabernacles. I love verse three, “Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.” This is not a one-time event. We can continually and often draw out of God’s well. There is an infinite supply.
We have this supply promised to us, because we have a personal relationship with God. Notice the personal possessive pronoun ‘my’ in verse two: “God is My salvation,” “My strength,” “My song.” David had a thirst for God, Psalm 63:1 “O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;”
The “dry and thirsty land” is a metaphor for this evil world. David often felt alone and isolated with enemies on every side. We live in a “dry and thirsty land,” -- 1John 5:19b “…, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.” We need continued refreshment from God and His Word. We shouldn’t wait for those times when we must cry out for help. God may be pleased to refresh us in those times of emergency, but why wait? You can have the joy of drinking of the wells of salvation immediately!
