Sin Destroys Everything it Touches

Ronald Cox • October 22, 2021

We would like for everyone, young and old, to come to the Fall Festival!

Sin destroys everything it touches

James 1:14-15 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

It only takes one rotten potato to ruin the whole basket of potatoes. That potato destroys all the other potatoes that it touches. Our sins destroy everything they touch.

What does sin destroy?

·       Our relationship with God - Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

·       Our soul – fear and negative emotions

·       Our true freedom – enslaved by sin

o  It is self-perpetuating

o  Proverbs 23:29-35 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things. Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

·       Our relationship with others – broken relationships, lack of trust

·       Our relationship with society, church, etc – poor testimony, poor citizen, jail, prison

·       It is a catalyst for other sins.

o  Gambling, sexual sins, etc.   One sin leads to another sin.

Let’s look at some verses from Proverbs 13 and see the warnings that King Solomon gave us concerning the consequences of sin.

1 A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

6 Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.

22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.

25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.

Affirmation of this Bible Truth

I confess the truth that sin destroys everything it touches. I acknowledge that addiction has caused destruction in my life and choose now to reject the sin of addiction that is destroying me.
